Barbecuing 101

We all know barbecuing is a man's sport.  Afterall, father's day is the when they have all the barbecues on sale.  But Erin Kay and I have been known to test our limits now and again, and Tuesday night I was hankering for the taste of a barbecued burger.  Nevermind that it was 15 degrees and there was still snow in the yard.   It had been a craving of mine for days.  In fact, I would have opted for barbecued burgers on Thanksgiving if I could have persuaded the rest of the crew, but turkey won out and my yearning continued.  Anyway, Erin Kay and I decided that we would show off our barbecuing skills and flame up the grill.  At just about the same moment we were devising our plan, Brian walked thru the door.  We decided to enlist his help to get the grill going since starting the barbecue wasn't our forte.

After Brian got the barbecue going, we went running out to the hot grill, frozen burgers in hand ready to start the event!  Carefully we slapped 'em on the grill and waited.  It was about this time that I learned a valuable lesson and improved my barbecuing skills at the same time.  I learned, through sad experience that it is next to impossible to turn a burger over slowly.  Believe me, we tried.  But that puppy slid right through the grill like a quarter going into a slot machine.  After we got done laughing, we tried to get it out with tongs, but laughter, and the flaming meat thwarted our attempts.  Who makes the grill spaces so far apart anyway?

It wasn't long before Murphy was happily chowing down the burnt remains of the sacrificed burger, and we were all enjoying nice juicy burgers hot off the grill! Out of 10 burgers, only one 'slipped through the cracks'.

Next time we plan on implementing our new barbecuing plan: "No burger left behind".
