Success at last!

For the seventh year in a row, we tried a garden. In the past, each endeavor was met with disappointing results. One year we planted 40 tomato plants and ended up with 12 golf ball size tomatoes. Today Brian and I spent 2 hours pruning back the tomatoes. (That's what is in the wheelbarrow - all the overgrowth!)It was a good thing too because they were so overgrown that we couldn't even see the ripe ones! Aren't they beautiful?! Now before you go thinking that we went tomato crazy and started picking the green tomatoes as well, let me put your mind at ease lest you think we are master gardners. A lot of the green tomatoes fell off when we were working with the vines, and some of them accidentally got "pruned" - woops! Unfortunately, the entire garden did not grow like the tomatoes on steriods: out of a whole row of beans, only one beanstalk came up (we picked all those beans today off that one plant! It still amazes me!) and our carrots still look like the roots of a dandelion. But for the first time in years, we have experienced the sweet taste of success! Ok - so I guess it's not like winning 7 gold metals but to us it is an amazing feeling! Look for pictures of us making salsa in the near future!
