Stay off the sidewalks ladies and gentlemen!

The next time you see me, if I have a few more gray hairs, just chalk it up to the fact that my youngest child now has her driver's license! A fact that I thought we could avoid , if only momentarily, when I learned about the experience that happened during her driving test. At an intersection, Celeste tried to make a left turn in front of an on-coming car. She wasn't sure she could make it, but she tried. She gunned it as the driver instructor hit the brake on his side of the car, and it sent them into a tailspin. That, in my book, would have been grounds for failure. But the drivers ed teacher administering the test is also Celeste's geometry teacher so they are 'friends'. Anyhoo - getting back to the reasoning for the gray hair, Celeste now has a valid driver's license and today she drove to her friend Tessa's house alone for the first time! Tessa lives out in the country, which is good because there is less traffic but also bad because sometimes the ice on the roads sticks out there. Apparently she made it there OK though because, as of yet, I haven't heard any sirens or gotten a desperate call that she hit a wayward dog. Now as long as she doesn't have to make a left hand turn in front of an on-coming car on the way home . . .

That story still kills me! I'm so glad she didn't get in a wreck! Is she loving having her license? I remember being thrilled until I realized I was now my mom's errand girl and had to run my younger brothers to places and pick things up from the store. It got old quick, but I survived. :)
