Cowboys and Nature

Those of you know us, may already know that my husband is a HUGE cowboy fan.  No - not just the NFL team - altho he has a special place in his heart for Tom Landry.  I am talking about the real life, spur-wearing, gun-toting, quick-shooting, toothpick-in-his-teeth cowboy!  So it was with much excitement and anticipation that he signed up for the Butch Cassidy 10K!  Which was quickly whittled down to the 5K after his foot injury.  A flare-up of an old high school injury after he ran the half marathon caused him to grimice every time he tried to run on it.  We thought the race of his dreams was out of the question, but by some miracle and some good ole cowboy toughness, he ran it!  And finished second in his age division - I might add!

Before the race started, while the participants were warming up, they drove the spectators to the finish line to cheer on their loved ones as they crossed the finish line.  While I was waiting I took some pictures of the breathtaking scenery.

It was almost spiritual.
It really made me realize why the Bible is full of experiences where those who wanted to be close to the Lord went out into the wilderness to pray.
Some how these pictures don't do justice to the incredible feeling  it gives you to just be out in nature.  Maybe that's why cowboys were always on their horses riding in the mountains.
It just give you a special feeling.

No wonder a good cowboy movie always ended by riding off into the sunset . . .

smooching with their loved one!
(OK, we'll save the smooching scene for later!)
