The spice of life

Amongst the English papers, Nutrition tests, job obligations and zumba (yes - I'm getting a little better at it.  Thanks for asking) we have added one more small event just to make sure life wasn't getting too dull or boring.  Just to spice things up a bit and keep us on our toes (no pun intended), Brian had foot surgery a few weeks ago.  Ever since he started running last summer, the pain in his foot became more intolerable until he could hardly walk on it.  Finally he went to see the orthopedic surgeon, and found out the tendon had slipped and bone was rubbing against bone.  The solution? surgery.

We have had some interesting adventures with a cast in our lives.  While Brian has relaxed and rested and stayed on the couch . . .

Us women have done some crafts - OK this was during the superbowl.  Who played in that again?

We've had a lot of visitors come over to sign his cast

Experienced some exciting adventures trying to get him into the shower without getting the cast wet

And had the special attention of Jeff who has been through foot surgery and could offer all kinds of unsolicited advice.

Just when I thought Brian would explode from cabin fever, we went up the mountain to get him out of the house and take some crazy funny pictures!

Last week he went to get his cast off. He thought he would be able to start walking on it, but he was wrong.  As a consolation prize he got this lovely boot and got to keep the crutches too!

The doctor said he can start trying to walk (trying being the key word there) in another week.
Meanwhile he's gotten pretty good at using crutches. (He's only fallen once!) Even though he hasn't tried his talent for them in the snow, he may get that chance this weekend.  It will be just one more thing to spice up our life!
